Wrapped: Naija Book Club Year in Books

Hello Reader,

What a year! In 2023, we read one book every month which makes it a total of 12 books as a Club.

As the year draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the literary odyssey we embarked on together. From the profound to the thought-provoking, each book we delved into added a unique hue to the canvas of our collective reading experience.

January — "My Vision" by Mohammed Bin Rashid

We kicked off the year with insights into leadership and vision from the ruler of Dubai, setting the tone for an intellectually stimulating journey.

February — "Think Again" by Adam Grant

Adam Grant challenged our perspectives and encouraged us to embrace the power of rethinking, a skill that undoubtedly enriched our discussions.

March — "Long Walk to Freedom" by Nelson Mandela

Mandela's extraordinary journey inspired us, teaching us about resilience, forgiveness, and the enduring spirit of human triumph. This book emerged as a favorite and here's why.

April — "Ego is the Enemy" by Ryan Holiday

Ryan Holiday's exploration of the pitfalls of ego provided us with valuable lessons on humility and self-awareness.

May — "Start with Why" by Simon Sinek

Sinek's golden circle led us to explore the essence of purpose-driven lives, encouraging us to find our "why."

June — "Start with Why" by Simon Sinek (Again!)

We revisited Sinek's work, reinforcing the significance of starting with purpose in both personal and professional realms.

July — "Finding Me" by Viola Davis

Viola Davis's candid memoir allowed us a glimpse into her remarkable journey, resonating with themes of identity and self-discovery. This is another favorite and here's why.

August — "And the Mountains Echoed" by Khaled Hosseini/ "In Pursuit of Purpose" by Dr. Myles Munroe

Two books, yes! Members read either of the two or both. A captivating dual exploration into fiction and personal development that sparked diverse discussions within our community.

September — "How to Talk to Anyone About Anything" by James Williams

Williams' guide to effective communication equipped us with invaluable tools for navigating conversations in various aspects of life.

October — "A Man of the People" by Chinua Achebe

Achebe's classic delved into political satire, provoking contemplation on power, corruption, and societal dynamics.

November — "Midnight's Children" by Salman Rushdie

Rushdie's magical realism transported us to a world of post-colonial India, where we witnessed the intertwining fates of children with extraordinary gifts.

December — "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens

In the spirit of the season, Dickens' timeless tale will guide us through the transformative journey of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Our journey through these literary landscapes has been nothing short of remarkable. Each book enriched our perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse narratives that shape our world.

As we close this chapter, let's celebrate the shared love for books that binds us together. Here's to another year of exploration, learning, and the joy of reading.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and looking forward to unraveling new literary treasures in the coming year!
